Empower Plus Program Update
Over the last few months we have been working hard to incorporate the Empower Plus Program in our center. The goal of this program is to help children to develop healthy habits and to prevent obesity by having more physical activity, having less screen time, and by making healthy food choices.
We are limiting screen time, and promoting physical movement. We have provided more equipment for our teachers to have "Music & Movement" time in their rooms. Teachers are incorporating directed physical activities on the playground that will help keep the children active. Computer and screen time is limited to 30 minutes per week with the exception of some educational computer programs.
Please join us in our effort to develop "Healthy Habits". Here are some things you can do as a family:
Recipe for a Healthy Weekend;
Limit TV time
Eat meals as a family
Eat fruits and vegetables
Take a walk outside together
Read a book inside together
Get a good night's sleep
Try these creative moves to liven up your time at home.
Animal Moves- As your child is picking up his toys, call
out the name of a fast-moving creature, like a bee, and move like
that creature as you work together (Hop like a bunny, waddle like a duck, leap like a frog, and slither like a snake). As you are getting ready for bed, you might move like an elephant or a turtle to help your child calm down. Have fun!
